The Aim Is To Get Better

You may (or may not) have noticed that I’ve mastered a magic trick.

It’s called the disappearing act and entails me vanishing from the blogosphere for a while (like, over a year) and then miraculously turning up, posting for a bit and then scurrying into the shadows once again.

It’s become a perpetual cycle I a) detest, b) always promise myself I won’t do again and c) continue to do despite the afore mentioned promises.
I could digress into a long-winded breakdown of why this happens and why it’s awful but the short of it is: I really, really don’t want to do it anymore.

So, I did what motivates me best: I set a goal to consistently post on this blog in 2019 (because I LOVE blogging and this community and the people within it and all it teaches me). And along with that, I’ve set some others.


In 2019 I’m going to get better at:

Posting on this blog consistently

Keeping track of the books I read (online)

I read over a hundred books a year (on average) and (surprise surprise) do actually have GoodReads and Twitter and Instagram, etc, etc.
BUT DO I USE THESE WONDERFUL TOOLS? Nope.
This year, I want to use GoodReads to keep record all the books I read (I know it’s not very ambitious and hundreds of thousands of people do this without a second thought – but I don’t!! And I want to.)

Writing more

For anyone who knows me personally, this may sound a little bit ridiculous. Because when I’m not reading or talking to my cats, I’m in my room and writing. But, in the past, the intention has always been to refine my writing – or help other people with theirs – not to do anything with mine.
This year, I want to change that.

Sleeping

To put it simply: my brain has too many tabs open, thus my sleeping schedule is atrocious. I sleep between 4 and 6 hours a night which is…fine. I don’t pass out in the middle of the day or need coffee to function or anything like that – but I think a little more sleep would be great.


Of course, there is more – but ‘taking more walks on the beach’ and ‘adding to my sock collection’ and ‘surviving my first year of university’ don’t seem like the kind of goals I’ll have trouble accomplishing.
